Donations help to provide Metro bus fare for people who cannot afford public transportation. Our goal is to ensure access to jobs, health care and other vital human services that help those living in poverty achieve self-sufficiency.
Approximately 25% of people in Cincinnati live below the poverty level and it is estimated that these people make up nearly 40% of the individuals who utilize public transportation. For those individuals, public transportation is critical to self-sufficiency. Many of those who are low income include seniors, the disabled, and women. Low-income working women, in particular, are often hardest hit by the cost of transportation and the lack of transportation alternatives. The number of families headed by a woman alone has increased substantially, and many of these families, including those with a working parent, live in poverty.
